Barbara W. Rogers, PhD, EdS
Barbara served as Lead Chaplain at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for almost seven years. She was also Associate Pastor with the First Church of God of New Kensington for more than ten years. However, over the last twenty-five years, she continuously worked as Founder and Director of Christian Life Skills. In this capacity , along with co-workers, Barbara has provided training to parents and other caring adults for effctively nurturing life skills development in children and youth within congregations and the community, using scripture as the basis for the curriculum.
In 2008 Barbara completed her doctorate at Union Institute & University with a specialization in Urban Youth and Family Pastoral Care. She has lectured locally and nationally for seminaries and various conferences. In addition to training in counseling and pastoral care, her background includes an advanced professional degree in Educational Administration, training in ministry to the grieving, drug and alcohol recovery; and, studies as a Scholar-in-Residence at St. Benedict Monastery–St. Johns, Minnesota, and through the Coolidge Research Fellowship with the Association for Religion and Intellectual Life at Columbia University, Union Theological Seminary and The Jewish Theological Seminary of New York.
In her earlier years, Barbara taught school, served as a school librarian, developed a Christian bookstore for an inner-city ministry, worked as assistant director for a regional church camp, taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and worked in various other volunteer capacities in the church.
She resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her husband of 38 years, Dr. John A. Rogers. They have two grown children and four grandchildren. Her favorite activities are spending time with family, playing Scrabble, bicycle riding, and furthering the ministries where God has privileged her to serve. Barbara is available to provide training for the Christian Life Skills ministry upon request.
